MUMBAI: Petrol prices were increased by 9-10 paise per litre on Sunday while diesel prices were hiked by 16-17 paise across the four metro cities.
In Delhi, petrol was retailing at Rs 83.49 per litre while diesel was sold at Rs 74.79 after today’s hike. In Mumbai, petrol price moved closer to the Rs 91 per litre mark to Rs 90.84 while diesel was priced at Rs 79.40.
Meanwhile, in Mumbai, price of petrol has touched new height.In other metro cities like Chennai and Kolkata petrol was priced at Rs 86.80 and Rs 85.30 per litre respectively while diesel was priced at Rs 79.08 and Rs 76.64 respectively.
Fuel prices have been witnessing a steep rise since the past few weeks.While the Opposition has blamed the union government for not doing enough to keep a check on prices.
The global crude oil prices and other international factors are causing a hike in prices of petroleum products.Petrol prices were revised daily in India with effect from June 15, 2017.
The government has been under immense pressure to cut taxes on fuel to reduce the burden of high fuel prices on common man but there has been no sign of taxes getting reduced.
The Centre currently levies a total excise duty of Rs 19.48 per litre of petrol and Rs 15.33 per litre on diesel. The central government has hiked excise duty on petrol many times when international crude prices were on a downward trend.
